The Editor, Sir:In response to your editorial titled 'Homophobic silliness and a failure of leadership', I would like to know what is the point you are trying to convey?
The PM was displaying a level of leadership that is severely lacking in our society.
What is wrong with the indelicate Jamaican trait of homophobia? I am very happy that I have such a trait and the Prime Minister that is leading my country seems to be playing the same guitar string that most Jamaicans have been doing.
Do not get me wrong, I will never support violence of any form against homosexuals, because that is none of my business, but like the PM, they have no seat at my table. Why when somebody stands up for what he believes in he is vilified, especially when the issue relates to homosexuals.
Important points
You have also ignored some important points made by Mr Golding. He also stated that if someone is to be selected to his Cabinet they will need to have the capacity to function without fear or any form of deterrent. I would suggest that you and the noble institution that you work for show some leadership and uphold the Jamaican law.
I know that you have no obligation to publish my letter but I will forever defend the Prime Minister. Well done by the Prime Minister and I am very happy that you were not frightened by the international media like some people back in Jamaica.
I am, etc,
C. DAVIS
