Three-way tie in Western Union Division B League
published: Sunday | April 27, 2008

Robert Bailey, Freelance Writer

POLICE 'B' strengthened their chances of advancing to the quarter-finals of this year's Western Union Division B League with a 26-18 victory over Speg 'B' at the Leila Robinson Courts yesterday.

Police 'B' are now tied for first with 15 points along with Leiba Gardens and Maverley.

Yvonne Simpson, captain of Police 'B', was delighted with her team's performance.

"We went out and we did what was expected of us, and I am happy for that," said Simpson. "In the first half our shooting was a bit off, however, in the final quarter we came back strongly because we didn't miss many shots.

"Our plan this season is to become successful and once we win our next match we should be in the quarter-finals," she said.

Girls intimidated

Arline Findlay, coach of Speg 'B', said: "I think our girls were a bit afraid because they were up against players that were bigger and more physical than them, and that was our problem throughout the game.

"We will have to regroup and train harder on passes because they were a bit off today. The players also were not focussed and we also need to work on that ," Findlay explained.

Sharnette Walker was the leading scorer for Police 'B' with 19 goals from 30 tries. Walker received good support from Simpson, who made nine goals from 12 attempts.

Chantoy Gordon (11 goals from 15 tries) top scored for Speg 'B'.

In the Supreme Ventures Division C League, Bridgeport edged Alpha 'B' 26-25, Torrington Park whipped Greenwich 40-10 and East Central thrashed Rollington Town 46-13.
