NATIONAL PLAYERS Carlton Baugh and Odean Brown shared the spotlight in yesterday's rain-affected, second-round Jamaica Super League (JSL) matches.
At Melbourne Oval, Baugh, who has played five Test matches for the West Indies, scored 122 to lift the Melbourne Kangaroos to 388 all out against Westmoreland at the close of play.
In his innings, Baugh struck 18 fours and two sixes off 108 deliveries. He also shared in an important fifth-wicket partnership with Andre McCarthy, who chipped in with 61.
Partnership
Damion Henry, 60, and Marlon Samuels, 54, had earlier put together 75 runs for the second wicket after Melbourne lost Dwayne Thompson (two) at 8-1. Damion Jacobs also contributed 50 for the hosts.
Jermone Williams (3-54) and Kenneth Beckford (3-94) were the leading wicket-takers for Westmoreland while Brian Moxam, who will start the second innings on a hat-trick, claimed 2-27.
Meanwhile, at Sabina Park, Brown, who has so far played 16 first-class matches for Jamaica, took 5-42 for the St Catherine Saints against the Kingston Tigers.
Brown, who bowled 25.4 overs, got the early breakthroughs when he removed Domaine Wilson, 32, and Christie Jones, 20, to have the Tigers at 76-2. Marvin Darlington, 32, was the only other batsman to make any worthwhile contribution. Fellow Jamaica players Tamar Lambert (3-21) and Jermaine Lawson (2-31) supported Brown well.
In reply, the Saints lost Junior Stewart, zero, and Damion Bryce, 19, to Jowayne Robinson (2-23).
At Alpart, St Elizabeth were 185 for six against the Trelawny Buccaneers when rain stopped play at tea. Vinard Woolcock, 64, and Shane Powell, 61, led the way for the St. Elizabeth Sharks, who were struggling at 21-2, before a 134-run third-wicket stand.
Lions strong
At Chedwin Park, the Manchester Lions were in a strong position to take first innings points from Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).
Joseph Palmer, 48, Akhbar Moodie, 34 not out, led the way for the JDF Brigades as they made 202 all out against Neive McNally (3-29) and David Powell (3-33).
The Lions will resume on 123-1. Gary Graham will continue from his overnight 79, while Donovan Sinclair will resume on 13. Zaniffe Fowler was the man dismissed for 36.
All matches resume this morning at 10:00.
