A double strike from marksman George Vernal carried home team Boys' Town to a 2-0 win over Seba United in the third round of the Cash Plus Premier League, at Collie Smith Drive yesterday.
Vernal scored in the 33rd and 89th minutes to move his team to 35 points, six of which have been garnered in this round.
"Playing at home, three points is definitely a must so I am very happy that the team was able to get the three points today," said Boys' Town's coach, Andrew Price.
"We are scoring and that's so important for us now. Once we put ourselves in positions goals will come and with the added impetus of George Vernal and Denzil Watson upfront, once we get the balls to these players they will do the trick for us."
Vernal's first goal was sheer power. After receiving a cross from Fabian Watson from the left side, he quickly fired a blinder past Jacomeno Barrett, who was beaten for pace.
The first half was entertaining but the second half, in which Seba had more possession, was a bit flat.
However, as Seba searched for the equaliser through numerous attacks, they thought they had won a penalty when the lanky Kemar Mills fell in the Boys' Town box in a challenge, but this was waved off by referee Lewin Purser.
Boys' Town showed Seba how deadly they can be on the counter when a telling cross from midfield was met on the right side by the skilful Watson, whose cross was headed home by Vernal near the death.
"We got a lot of chances and half chances and didn't capitalise and that's what Boys' Town did," said Theodore Whitmore, Seba's coach.
He added: "The game was 50-50 until Boys' Town scored. In the second half, we took full control until the last goal."
