The Editor, Sir:
I have sent the following letter to Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin, commissioner of police.
Dear Commissioner,
This is an open letter to bring your attention to the night noise situation experienced in the Industry Village, Cooperage and Mamee River area along the Gordon Town Road. After complaining last year for more than three months, action was only taken after my letters started to appear in the press.
Relative peace has reigned since and agreement was reached with party organisers, I even wrote a letter to the sergeant at Gordon Town Police Station outlining the agreement with the organisers.
More vigilance needed
However, after two weekends of torture with the DJ announcing that it is to be a weekly event, I see the trend of non-action by the Gordon Town police starting again. I shouldn't be hearing that "a unit is in the area" and nothing is happening. Nor should I be told that " ... well, they were told to turn it off at 2:00 a.m. And certainly I shouldn't be hearing when I call the station that the sole police vehicle for the area is on Constant Spring Road. Simply put, if the station knows a sound will be playing, then they should go to the location at the appointed 2:00 a.m. and ensure that there is compliance.
The party organisers have obviously decided not to uphold their end of the bargain, and Gordon Town police have decided once again not to uphold the law. Magnum, the sponsor promoting the event, obviously condones this flaunting of the law and what is obviously now not common decency. I am now writing and sending this letter at 4:30 a.m., having called the police station four times with no success.
I am, etc.,
