Harbour View increased their tally to 22 points in the JFF/Coca-Cola National Under-21 League, when they defeated second-from-bottom August Town 1-0 at UWI Bowl yesterday.
Both teams played well in the first half, but Harbour View dominated midfield which kept their forwards on cue while making good attempts to score. By the 40th minute, André Fagan scored, off an assist from Jermaine Fletcher in the six-yard box, to propel Harbour View into the lead.
However, this did not faze August Town as they continued to maintain their composure.
In the second half, Harbour View lost their momentum after August Town unleashed intense pressure on their defence, and goalkeeper Marvin Mundy was kept on his toes after numerous attacks led by forwards Tremaine Stewart and Ajuran Brown.
In the final 15 minutes, Harbour View attempted to regain control, but to no avail as striker Errol Stevens, one of their better players, was substituted in the 78th minute, much to the dismay of Harbour View's supporters.
Ludlow Bernard, coach of Harbour View contends that it will not be an easy feat to remain on top of the league as there are good teams in the competition, and his team will have to plan their strategy from game to game. Overall, Bernard believes it was not one of their better games.
Better days
"I think we gave our opponents too much room in the second half and as a result, some of their better players were able to end up in front of our defence," he said. "However, our players stood the test and we withstood the pressure in the last 15 minutes of the game."
Meanwhile, Kenneth Wilson, coach of August Town, which remained on five points, is adamant that joking days are over and with the addition of a number of new and focused players, his team should be climbing up the ladder from now on.
"We played a good game. During the course of this week, we did some very hard work and it is fair to say that this may be the last game we lost based on our projections right now, so I am looking for better days for August Town going forward," Wilson said.
