W'house, Reno have title in grasp
published: Saturday | January 19, 2008

Robert Bailey, Freelance Writer

Waterhouse and Reno will be aiming to secure their first hold on the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF)/Sherwin Williams Women's Premier and 'A' League titles respectively, in today's second-leg finals at Drewsland Mini Stadium.

Led by double strikes from Rochelle Bryan and Omolyn Davis, Waterhouse defeated Portmore Strikers 4-1 in the first-leg Premier League encounter, while five different players scored for Reno in their 5-0 thrashing of Arnett Gardens in the 'A' League match, which was part of a double-header at Barbican playing field last Saturday.

"I am confident that we are going to pull it off we are confident we want the players to stay focused on the task ahead of them," said Xavier Gilbert, coach of Waterhouse. "Our ultimate aim now is to be the champions. We have won one game already and we want to make sure that we don't lose this game, and if we lose we will have to make sure we lose by not more than a 0-1 margin.

"We are going out there to be very disciplined in terms of our tactical approach because we can't allow complacency to get in our way. We also know that Portmore is a very spirited team and we can't allow them to get at back at us."

Gilbert added: "Waterhouse is also our home ground so we would want to put on a good showing for our spectators by playing attractive football for them."

Meanwhile, Cornell Clarke, coach of Portmore Strikers, says his team can rebound.

"We will be going all out to get the goals that we need to win the game because in the first game, we created a lot of chances and couldn't put them away," said Clarke. "It is going to be very tough for us going down at Drewsland because Waterhouse are sitting pretty easy on a three-goal advantage, but it has happened in the past where they have led us 2-0 and we rallied to beat them, so we just hope that we can repeat this feat."

Clarke added that he would be making one change to his starting line-up, which will see overseas-based player Sashsheena Stewart taking her place in the midfield.

"The players have pledged more commitment to our team, they have also trained very hard for this game and I think this is going to be the difference in this game," Clarke noted.
