Issue: The chauvinistic reverend
published: Saturday | January 19, 2008

I am very disappointed with the sentiments expressed by the Reverend Bolt at Thursday's Gleaner Editors' Forum where he said women can't teach boys what they need to know, and that men need to take back their place in society etc. Most of this sounds very chauvinistic - Margaret Thatcher was the prime minister of Britain, Elizabeth is queen, Hillary Clinton is running for the postion of president of the U.S. and there are so many more strong women. Oprah Winfrey has her vast empire. Are you saying, that I, along with other females who are single parents - my son's father died - am not able to teach boys what they need to know because I am a woman?

Come on, stop being chauvinistic. Even your comments about singing in church and certain songs that men might find uncomfortable, as a Christian I am disappointed with that - how do you get homophobia from serving God? If I were you I would feel very uncomfortable in making that statement. Who is greater, man or God? Stop making excuses for men and try not to alienate the female population of your church as I am sure the vast majority do not agree with the sentiments that you have expressed.
