Green, Barnett run away with cross-country titles

RUPERT GREEN and Royalty Track Club's Tanice Barnett are the senior male and female Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association (JAAA) National Cross-Country champions.

At the Championships held yesterday at Windalco, Kirkvine, Green, running un-attached, stopped the clock in 28 minutes, 18.19 seconds ahead of Kirk Brown (28:34.45) and Shawn Pitter (28:46.16) in the men's 8K. Damion Bent of G.C. Foster (28:56.42) and Gregory McKenzie (29:18.97) rounded out the top five.

Senior women's 6K

In the senior women's 6K, Barnett won in 24 minutes, 42.46 seconds, ahead of Petrona McClymont of G.C. Foster College (27:01.08) and Neisha Morgan of Manchester High (28:31.98). Karlene Blagrove (29:10.78) and Petrona Layne of Vere (30:20.86) were fourth and fifth.

Junior men's 6K

In the junior men's 6K, Kemoy Campbell (21:02.71) beat Holmwood's pair of Wayne McIntyre (21:53.23) and Lorenzo Wedderman (22:02.91).

Natoya Goule took the junior women's 4K in 16:29.47 ahead of Amoya Bailey of Holmwood (16:37.80) and Teneisha Davis of Vere (17:01.43).

The championships will help select Jamaica's team's for next year's North American, Central America and Caribbean Cross-Country Championships to be held on March 8 in Clermont, Florida.
