LETTER OF THE DAY - English examination results no surprise
The Editor, Sir: Why should we find it so strange that there was a low percentage of success in English for the students who wrote the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination? Your lead story of Friday, December 14, also stated that the pass rate in mathematics was also low, but I would like to reflect on English only in this article.

'I did not say that'

The Editor, Sir: Your newspaper of December 14, on Page A3, reported that "the PNP's Donald Rhodd accused many of the councillors sworn in as having got their position through intimidation and bribery". I said "some" of the councillors and not "many".

Expectations too high?

The Editor, Sir: I refer to the letter from a returnee, in Saturday's edition of The Gleaner. The writer said the Government had been rather silent and ineffective when it came to addressing our burdensome crime rate.

Rubbish, Dawn Ritch!

The Editor, Sir: In her latest attack on Prime Minister Bruce Golding and the Jamaica Labour Party, your columnist Dawn Ritch seems to have been overcome by some element of confusion, which resulted in her stating in her article of Sunday, December 9, that " ... and the ruling JLP nearly lost the St. Elizabeth and St. Mary parish councils as well".
