We at the Scout Association of Jamaica are encouraged by the statement of Mr. Mark Kerr-Jarrett, chairman of the St. James Parish Committee, calling for the revival of boy scouts, girl guides and cadets. The association is this year celebrating 100 years of scouting in the world and will be celebrating 100 years of Scouting in Jamaica in 2010. We have been evaluating ourselves over the past six months and reviewing strategies to revive scouting to its former glory.

Development plan

The association reviewing its four-year development plan for the next four years. This will include the areas of youth programmes adult resources, finance expansion and institutional management.

The association will have in place a year-by-year programme of events to see renewed growth in scouting and its impact on the youngsters of today.

Two major events will jump-start the development plan. A National Scout Council meeting on Saturday, November 10, commencing at 2:00 p.m. will appoint members of the scout executive, present the development plan as a working document, and award persons and companies that supported us during the 13th Caribbean Jamboree in 2006.

A banquet of honour for our past chief scouts, chief commissioners and presidents is set for December 7.

Alongside these events will be training seminars and camps for persons of sound character and integrity who would like to volunteer to become leaders of the many youngsters who need leadership. We invite volunteers to offer themselves as a part of this revival.
