THE EDITOR, Sir:
My deepest sympathies to all my fellow Jamaicans who have been affected by the onslaught of Hurricane Dean. I hope and trust that we will all come together as a people and do whatever we can to assist those in need, in this time of calamity.
I'm also deeply concerned with the serious implications of our present predicament. Hurricanes are by no means unusual to Jamaica and we are all aware of when the season begins and ends. It is a fact that due to Jamaica's geographical location, the reality of us being hit by a hurricane at some point in time, is indeed inevitable, sotherefore, it is a problem we will have to live with.
I find it unusual though that the powers that be, for reasons known best only to them, chose to conduct our general election which is viewed by some as the 'silly season', in a hurricane season. I strongly believe that we would have spared our nation one less serious problem in this time of disaster, had we not had such a 'silly combination' imposed on us.
I am, etc.,
