THE EDITOR, Sir:I am a teacher and I believe education is important to growth and development, reduction of crime and good social life. This should just not be an "if" in any one's mind, this should have been long implemented. How can the present government continue to tell the nation that their philosophy is to improve lives and yet have great difficulties in understanding the possibilities of providing fee education as the base for the future?
To clear the air, they know it is possible, but then it boils down to priority and for the time being, the truth is overshadowed by politics, by trying to sell the the proposed idea as impossible.
However, on the 28th of August, whoever forms the government should bear this in mind: a country without solid literacy will continue to struggle and we all can agree on one thing, we are a struggling nation. We often times allow politics to overshadow the truth.
Free education is possible. Make it a priority because if we continue to put a band aid on the sore, our future looks dim.
I am, etc.,
