Former Prime Minister Edward Seaga (left) and Opposition Leader Bruce Golding in discussion at the wreath-laying ceremony at Sir Donald Sangster's tomb at the National Heroes Park in April. Mr. Seaga has chosen to stay off the campaign trail, in contrast to former People's National Party President P.J. Patterson who has been ramping up support for the Simpson Miller administration. - Ian Allen/Staff Photographer The Editor, Sir:
Open letter to Dr. Michael Thompson. It seems you are out of touch with what is going on in Jamaica, or you are unclear about Jamaican politics. Your suggestionabout Mr. Golding involving Hon. Edward Seaga on his campaign trail shows a lack of political insight on your part.
It is incumbent on Mr. Golding to demonstrate to the Jamaican people that he is engaging in a politics of upliftment and change. If he is going to change any 'course', he has to detach and remove the 'old guards' from the labour gate despite their experience.
It is counter-intuitive and counter-productive to inject Mr. Seaga on the campaign trail. Mr. Golding has to rely on good judgement to reshape the party for victory in the coming election. The lessons of the past are a guide to the future and it is because of Mr. Seaga's past that he should be excluded from the campaign trail.
