Telecommunications giants Digicel will be playing a keen role in assisting Jamaica's athletes to participate at the Penn Relays, set for the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field in Philadelphia from April 26 to 28.

On Tuesday, Digicel, known for its love towards sports, and track & field in general, announced its sponsorship of Team Jamaica Bickle as support for the Jamaican and Caribbean athletes, who will be participating in the 113th staging of the highly anticipated Penn Relays. Digicel's collaboration with the non-profit organisation Team Jamaica Bickle, a participating sponsor of the Penn Relays, provides assistance to Jamaican and Caribbean athletes and officials.

Amenities

Through the company's international top-up product CaribFlex, which allows individuals in the Jamaican diaspora to send credit to their friends and family at home, the sponsorship will help to provide meals, transportation and amenities for the athletes and officials during their stay in the United States. The participants will also receive free credit, courtesy of Digicel, for use while they are abroad.

Harry Smith, Digicel's chief customer relations officer, said Penn Relays is an important track & field meet.

"Anyone who has seen or been to the Penn Relays will appreciate why it is such an important track and field competition for Jamaica and the Caribbean. The pride we feel when our athletes perform at such high levels and shine on the international stage is phenomenal, and Digicel is excited to be a part of the action."

Meanwhile, Irwine Clare of Team Jamaica Bickle said: "We welcome Digicel as a partner of Team Jamaica Bickle. This collaboration presents a win-win situation for our athletes at the Penn Relays, and our ambassadors are truly enriched by the participation of Digicel."

Several top track & field school teams, headed by Holmwood girls, Calabar High, Kingston College, St. Jago boys and girls, Jamaica College, Manchester, Edwin Allen and Herbert Morrison, are down to participate.

G.C. Foster College and the University of Technology will head the local college teams.
