John Mills won their 12th consecutive Institute of Sports (INSPORTS)/Junior High School Athletics Championships, which ended at the National Stadium yesterday.
Though they were faced with challengers, John Mills were able to secure their 14th title, after topping the overall section with 490.5 points, ahead of Windward Road (452.5), Mico Practising (179), Swallowfield (158) and Red Hills (150.5).
John Mills also won the boys' section, scoring 278.5 points to beat Windward Road (216) and Swallowfield (83).
However, Windward Road took the girls' section with 236.5 points to beat John Mills (212) and Mico (106).
Ransford Spaulding, the victorious John Mills coach, described this as the second most difficult championships.
"This was the second hardest challenge of the 12 titles," he said.
He admitted that he was worried after the first day, especially since Windward Road were out front 61-45, the first time he has started a final day behind.
Not up to scratch
This, he said, was because "the girls were not performing to expectations", which he said forced him to "reanalysed my girls team tactics".
He added: "After analysing I realised we still had a great chance, though the improved performance was more after the motivational talk.
"The boys' team was more than exceptional," he said.
Raciene Mitchell of Mico and Neil Reynolds of John Mills, with 18 points each, were the respective girls' and boys' Class One champions.
Other Class champions were: Nicholas Lindsay of John Mills (Class Two), Lenville Chambers of Constant Spring (Class Three) and Tevin Murphy (Class Four) for boys; while in the girls segment it was Shana-Kay Cousins of John Mills (Class Two), Kerry-Ann Richardson of Windward Road (Class Three) and Toni-Ann Harriott of St. Mary's (Class Four).
Cousins took the Class Two 100m (12.9) and 200m (27.54), while Mitchell won the Class One girls 400m (1:03.06) and the 200m (27.49). Sashana Wright of Windward Road also collected two wins, the girls 800m Open in 2:33.53 and the 1500m in 5:31.34.
Reynolds logged victories in the boys Class One 100m (11.3) and 200m (23.95), Murphy took the Class Four 200m (26.97) and 100m (13.15), while Lindsay captured the Class Two 100m (12.52) and 200m (24.95).
