NINE-YEAR-old el Instituto de Mandeville student Sean Wilson topped his 2006 haul of four events by taking five - the triple crown in the Under-13s and a double in the Under-11s - in the first weekend of this year's Junior Classic badminton tournament played at the Constant Spring Golf Club last weekend.

In the Under-11 age group, Wilson defeated his younger brother, Shane, in the singles before teaming with him in the doubles to down the team of Shevon Salmon and Zachary Thomas 21-8, 21-4.

In the Under-13 events, Wilson defeated Samuel Ricketts in the final 21-16, 21-17, before pairing with Ricketts to beat his brother and Stanley Ling 21-10, 21-15.

In the mixed doubles, Wilson partnered double winner Alexandra Beckford of Peter and Paul Prep as they defeated Howard Murray and Jahvaine Henry 21-15, 21-7 in the final. His dominance in the two age groups would have made him almost a certainty for six titles had there been an Under-11 mixed doubles. This mixed and the Under-11 girls doubles was not played due to insufficient entries. In the Under 17s, deCarteret's Gareth Henry, a gold medallist from last year's Pan American Junior Badminton Championships, had a double win as he faced Haile Selassie's Tossainte Taylor in all three finals.

Henry defeated Taylor 21-10, 21-14 in the singles, then teamed with Delsang Lue Taim Jr. to defeat Taylor and Anthony McNee 21-15, 21-19. Taylor was able to reverse the result in the mixed doubles as he and Shana-Kay Bailey defeated Henry and Mikaylia Haldane 21-14, 20-22, 21-12.

The 13-year-old Bailey, out of St. Hugh's High, won a second title in the Under-17 division when she teamed with 14-year-old namesake Shakeria Bailey to take the girls' doubles from the top seeded pair of Haldane and Nikole Simpson 21-14, 22-20.

Mikaylia prevented Shana-Kay's triple by defeating her 21-13, 21-16 in the girls' singles. Both Baileys and Haldane will continue their rivalry in this weekend's Under-15 events.

The Under-15 and Under-19 age groups will be played at Constant Spring today and tomorrow.

St. George's take a 1-0 lead into tomorrow's second-leg final of the Eastern Confederation Super League against Brazil.

The 3:00 p.m. match at Lynch Park in Portland is expected to be competitive.

Damion Harwood scored the lone goal in St. George's win last week.

Also in eastern Jamaica, the Western Union Portland Major League continues with three matches.

Eagle Strikers take on Ujama Poincianna Park at Fairy Hill while Breastworks tackle Taurus United at Canewood, Hope Bay. Both matches are set for 3:00 p.m.

Also at Canewood, Norwich and Progressive will meet in a 1:00 p.m. match.

In last weekend's Portland Caribbean International Network Under-16 final, Progressive United defeated Manchioneal 3-0 at the College of Agriculture, Science and Education east campus football field.

Fabian Powell (eighth), Fabian Afflick (ninth) and Ricardo Peynado (77th) scored for the champions.

Sporting Central Academy will this afternoon take a 3-1 lead into their Super Plus South Central Confed Super League second leg semi-final match against Arlington FC at Brancourt playfield.

Oneke Ford scored a double strike and Hughan Gray netted a solo effort for Sporting Central, while Greg Gardener scored for Arlington from the penalty spot.

In the other semi-final at Brooks Park, St. Elizabeth, home team Los Perfectos will attempt to overhaul Humble Lions' 2-1 first-leg lead. Both matches begin at 3:30 p.m.

Five matches are scheduled to be played this weekend in the Captain's Bakery St. Thomas Major League.

In today's action, Danvers Pen face Yallahs at Danvers Pen, Delta Force take on Prospect at Eastern Banana complex and White Horses Upliftment entertain Lyssons at York Sports Complex.

Tomorrow, Paul Bogle tackle Leith Hall at York Oval while Cool Kat travel to the SDF field to face Real Morant.

All matches being at 3:00 p.m.

After 14 rounds, Lyssons (33 points) lead the 10-team standings. They are followed by Yallahs (27), Delta Force (24), Prospect (21), Danvers Pen (18), Cool Kat and Real Morant (16), Paul Bogle and Leith Hall (13) and Upliftment (11).

In the last round of matches, Prospect beat Danvers Pen 4-0, Delta Force defeated Paul Bogle 3-0 and Lyssons edged Real Morant 1-0.

The Island Sport Trust Primary School girls' football and boys' basketball competitions got underway on Tuesday with two matches at the Eden Park Sports Complex in Jacks River, St. Mary.

On the football field, Jacks River completed a one-sided 3-0 victory over Galina. Keeping possession for about 80 per cent of the game, Shanel McNeish opened the scoring in the 17th minute and doubled the score for the home team in the 30th. Shemone Carter sealed the issue in the 43rd with a beautiful strike from 18 yards out.

Galina turned the tables on the Jacks River side on the basketball court. The Galina side jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead and pushed the score to 9-2 at the final buzzer.

Three Hills, who were scheduled to play Mt. Angus in the second football game, failed to find a team.

The John Issa/SuperClubs 3-on-3 basketball competition, coordinated by the Western Hotels Sports Association, climaxes on Monday when pre-season favourites and three-time defending champions Sunset Beach Resort and Spa host one of last year's beaten semi-finalists and joint champions in 2002, Grand Lido Braco Resort and Spa.

The venue is the Montego Bay Cricket Club and match time is 4.30 p.m. Referees for the match will be Deon Williams and Michael Rose.

Both teams come into this final unbeaten and with contrasting progress to this stage of the competition.
