Live sex a new low

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I AM absolutely outraged at the article in last Sunday's Gleaner (June 18, 2006) about live sex on stage at a Kingston venue. Many of us have heard rumours of this type of activity in recent years and are disgusted that people are so immoral that they would engage in it. The owners of these clubs, the participants, paid and unpaid, and the patrons at these clubs are all to blame. The police have also been negligent in their duties since they have not locked up any of the club owners or participants for carrying out this illegal activity.
NO SENSE OF PRIDE
How could people stoop so low as to carry out a most private act in such a public space? Is there no sense of pride and decency? Publishing nightly earnings does not help either, because it might well serve as an incentive to those participating in 'Dutty Wine' contests and sex on the buses who will subsequently 'graduate' to live sex and prostitution.
Dr. Glenda Simms blames economics to a large extent, but I believe the problem is much deeper. There is a severe moral decay which has taken over the land, aided by cable and the Internet which provide easy access to pornography. Parents, teachers and the Church in particular need to be more vigilant to ensure that the young people of this country grow up with a moral framework, not believing that anything goes, anytime, anywhere.
I am etc.,
