BIOLOGICAL AGENTS such as pest and diseases are major concerns to all farmers as they have the capability of reducing the revenues a farmer can achieve. To protect revenue, farmers use several pesticides and insecticides to control these agents. Most vegetables, like any other cash crop, are vulnerable to these agents, which affect the yield and quality of the product.
To ensure the safety of the product for consumers, the time these chemicals are added is critical. Over time, most of these chemicals dissociate into non-hazardous chemicals. But to ensure that all the chemical residues are to a minimum or no longer present on the product, Residual Pesticide Analysis can be done to establish the presence and concentration of any chemical residue left on the product. The main compounds of interest that are analysed include those of malathion, diazinon, chlopyrifos and profenofos compounds. This type of analysis is also done on water, soil, fruit and vegetable samples to determine their presence and the extent of their presence.
