How to become a GSI
published: Thursday | March 9, 2006

THE GSI at the Biotechnology Centre at UWI are always on the lookout for plants showing symptoms of geminivirus infection. You can become a GSI by helping us locate infected plants.

Below are descriptions of symptoms of geminivirus infection. If you identify any or a combination of some of these symptoms, collect a sample and send it to us.

SAMPLE COLLECTION, STORAGE AND MAILING

Remove a portion of the infected plant including the youngest leaves. Place the plant between two sheets of newspaper, press it under a weight (such as a thick book) for a few days. Once the samples are dried, mail to the GSI Group, Biotechnology Centre, UWI, Mona. If it is possible, include a description of the plant and its symptoms and a flower if the plant has one. We will inform you of the outcome of our investigations.
