HURRICANE CHARLEY suspended the start of play in the CONCACAF Caribbean Zone B Under-17 World Cup qualifiers yesterday.
Jamaica, who are hosting Grenada, the Dominican Republic and Antigua and Barbuda, are hunting their second qualification in the youth tournament after their initial success in 1999.
If weather permits, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic will play at noon today to be preceded by Grenada and Antigua and Barbuda at 10:00 a.m. at Prison Oval.
The fixture for the other games, so far, remains the same with the Dominican Republic and Grenada playing at 4:00 p.m. and Antigua and Barbuda meeting the hosts at 6:00 p.m. tomorrow at the same venue.
In the final round, the Dominican Republic tackle Antigua and Barbuda and Grenada meet Jamaica at 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. respectively also at the Prison Oval on Sunday.
The national Under-20 team has its World Cup qualifying tournaments on August 21, 23 and 25 at home. Both of Jamaica's teams must top their zone to advance to the next round.
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has reportedly invested $4 million in the two youth qualifying tornaments. The federation is responsible for accommodation, transportation and other provisional needs for the visiting teams.
Also affected by the storm was the women's DHL basketball final and a men's DHL semi-final scheduled for last night.
Waulgrovian Bullets and Lady Panthers will have to wait until tomorrow night to tip-off their best-of-three final at 6:00. The men's semi between Urban Knights and Link-Up All-Stars will follow at 7:45 p.m. at the National Stadium courts.
