The Church is far from silent
published: Thursday | August 12, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THIS IS a letter to critics of the 'Church'. You do not 'darken the door of a church'" except for funerals or weddings; you turn off the radio or television when Christian songs or programmes are being aired; you do not read the Word of God or enter into meaningful discussions relative to God or Jesus Christ, yet you are the very persons who are asking "What is the church saying?" "Why is the church silent?" as you see perilous times looming over our nation (see 2 Timothy 3:1-5)

The Church is far from silent. You are just not listening. If you really want to hear what the Church is saying, all of the above channels are readily available to you.

The voice of the Church is and should represent only the VOICE OF GOD as set out in the Bible nothing more, nothing less. For clarification, the Church is your godly neighbour, co-worker and family and not the building where they meet to worship, encourage each other in the faith and receive teaching, in addition to many other activities.

The church is actively at work as evidenced by the lives of many godly persons in our nation, not all of whom are in the limelight. They have chosen to put God first in their lives and are loving their neighbours as themselves, in obedience to the greatest commandment and the golden rule.

SALT AND LIGHT

They are seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, with the assurance that all their needs will be met. (Matthew 6:33).

The Church is the salt and light of the world. Without it the world would be tasteless and dark. If it's this bad now, what do you think it would be like without it?

Here is a challenge to those who criticise the church: Get to know God and become His mouthpiece. It's not as easy as you think but He will empower you. Try it nuh?

I am, etc.,
