Better alternatives for Portmore
published: Wednesday | August 11, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IF GOVERNMENT wants a toll road in Portmore, then why don't they

1. build a highway/bridge from Hellshire to Port Royal and/or;

2. roadway along existing railway from Dyke Road, behind Seaview Gardens to Marcus Garvey Drive and/or;

3. a bridge from the Hunts Bay side of the causeway right to Dyke Road.

What have Portmore people done to this government why they want to put a new tax on us. Why is the Opposition so silent on this matter? Why does Portmore have to pay direct for their road development? Why not the persons that use Old Hope Road and other road networks improved on in the Corporate Area in recent times?

The various governments (JLP/PNP) that approved the many different housing solutions in the Portmore area, didn't they think we would need better and wider roadways to accommodate the growing population? What amount does our Mayor have in mind for us to pay? Does he know what I, we can afford?

The government needs to show its citizens some respect. They must remember power to the people and Portmore people have the power.

I am, etc.,
