Four killed in separate incidents
published: Wednesday | March 31, 2004

By Devon Evans, Gleaner Writer

OCHO RIOS, St. Ann

FOUR PERSONS were killed in St. Ann, one of them by the police, in four separate incidents since Sunday.

So far the police has identified one of those killed as 28-year-old Reynold Grant of Exchange in the parish while the other three remain unidentified.

Grant was stabbed to death early on Sunday morning following a fight at a party which was being held in Ocho Rios. It was reported that while the party was in session some men believed to be from the Pineapple Place community invaded the premises and demanded to be served drinks and this action triggered a dispute with the party organisers.

CHASE

Grant was reportedly chased from the premises by a group of men, who held him and stabbed him several times, killing him on the spot. Two other persons also received knife wounds during the fracas and had to receive treatment at the St. Anns Bay Hospital.

In the other three incidents, all the victims died from gunshot wounds.

The St. Ann police reported that a man was shot and killed at Priory Beach near St. Anns Bay at about 1:30 on Sunday morning when he attacked a policeman with a knife and was shot by the officer. The police reported that the man was accosted while trying to steal a motor car and was confronted by the officer who was called to the scene.

Some 10 minutes later residents of Parry Town nearly 20 miles away heard the sounds of gunshots and when they went to investigate, they found the body of a man who was earlier involved in a robbery in the area. The man and two other men reportedly robbed a group of vendors in Parry Town of cash and jewellery some minutes before the shooting and is believed to have been shot by one of his cronies.

Meanwhile at about 8 o'clock on Monday morning the police were called to an area near the Dunsville main road where the body of a man was found with gunshot wounds. The hands and feet were bound with masking tape.
