... Cold-case killings under investigation
Police killings going back five years are now being investigated by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
Yesterday, during a Gleaner Editors' Forum held at the newspaper's North Street, central Kingston, offices, INDECOM head Terrence Williams made an appeal to members of the public who had family members or friends who were reportedly killed by the police going back to 2008 to come forward.
"We have inherited 158 cold cases from the BSI (Bureau of Special Investigations), fatal shootings that they did not close. In fact, we took 400 files from them, but some of them, we were already doing, so there were 158 files that we didn't have, dating back to 2008," he said.
"We are encouraging members of the public who might have had family members or friends allegedly killed by the police going back to 2008 to contact us because we are trying to see if we can resolve these cases one way or another and close these investigations."
