Gov't raping the nation indeed!

Published:Tuesday | December 4, 2012

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Gordon Robinson's article 'State-sponsored rape' (Sunday Gleaner, December 2, 2012) is an artistically jaw-dropping critique with a compelling illustration of governance gone wrong.

The explanations given by the 'defenders' were below flat and are testimony to how they view the citizens of this nation: with very little regard. There seems to be one difference between the two parties: one is in power.

I recently completed a master's degree at the University of the West Indies and thought I would gain two increments on my pay (a meagre $150,000 annually before tax), but I am told this only applies to people working with government for two years or more.

However, an administration of one year could short-change the cash-strapped country of more than $110 million, with the cost of gas and maintenance not considered.

With the continued unconscientious actions of successive administrations, as an advocate of nationhood, I am now compelled to question my patriotism.

Thanks, Mr Robinson, for making a very compelling case.
