What about the guardian?

Published: Tuesday | October 6, 2009

The Editor, Sir:

Reference is made to a letter from Millicent Davis on page C5 of the October 5 issue of The Gleaner. In this letter, she is congratulating her daughter for the excellent achievement in her CSEC and CAPE exams.

Davis said she was a single absentee mother who had to migrate to work so that her daughters could have the opportunity she never had. She said she was so proud of the young woman her daughter had become.

'Big up' the guardian

After reading this letter, I realised no mention was made of her daughter's guardian, who must have been a good influence on the upbringing of her daughter while she was abroad working.

I know she is a proud mother because her daughter has not fallen through the cracks like other children whose mothers have left them and gone abroad to provide for them. The guardian should also be commended because he/she has played an integral part in the life of this child. The mother could not have done it alone.

I would also like to big up the guardian, the daughter, the mother and everyone who have played a part in the upbringing of this wonderful child.

I am, etc.,
