Classes were suspended at the Donald Quarrie High School in St Andrew on Friday following a break-in at the school on Thursday night.

Thieves gained entry to the administration offices through the roof. They made off with three laptops from the information technology department and approximately $30,000.

According to Reford Hinds, principal of the institution, it was a devastating situation, as the school was badly damaged. He said nowhere was spared.

The principal said he was unsure whether classes would be resumed on Wednesday as planned.

However, the principal said the situation did not affect the sitting of Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate examinations as special arrangements had been made for the students.

He added that an estimate of the value of items stolen had not yet been done as police from the Elleston Road station were still conducting investigations.
