Martha's House grateful to corporate Jamaica

More organisations have come on board to assist the children of Martha's House, who lost their belongings in a fire at the Mustard Seed Communities home.
Martha's House, located on North Street, central Kingston, was home to 30 children until it was destroyed by the blaze last Monday night.
Wynlee Distributors Limited yesterday answered the need for food and clothing.
Winsome Halliman, CEO of Wynlee, said that, being part of the community, the members of the organisation did not hesitate to assist.
"Though no lives were lost, the children lost everything. So we see it as a good gesture as a corporate responsibility to come on-board and make this special donation," Halliman said.
She further encouraged other persons to assist as the situation is painful.
LIME and CWI donated $2m
Telecommunications company LIME and Cable & Wireless International (CWI), LIME's parent company, donated $2 million to Mustard Seed to rebuild Martha's House.
"Our CEO from Cable & Wireless International, Tony Rice, wanted to make a contribution to a charity here in Jamaica and when we told him about the fire he chose Mustard Seed," LIME's regional vice-president, corporate communications, Errol Miller, said as he handed over the cheque.
Mustard Seed's deputy executive director, Darcy Tulloch-Williams, said she was elated and excited to see corporate Jamaica so generous in assisting the needy children.
"I want to thank the organisation on behalf of the children and the members of staff for this wonderful contribution which will be a good replacement because we lost everything in the fire," Tulloch-Williams said during the Wynlee handing over.
Among the items donated by Wynlee were sports wear, diapers, food and toiletries.
Since the incident, The STAR has pleaded for help to address the needs of the children of Martha's House. So far, the response for clothes and food has been good, but there remains need for help. Persons wishing to donate can call 1-888-843-7827.
