Jamaica in control

Three-wicket hauls from leg-spinner Gavin Wallace and pacers David Bernard Jr and Andrew Richardson have put Jamaica in a good position to claim first innings points against Combined Colleges and Campuses (CCC) in their WICB regional four-day championship clash at Sabina Park yesterday.
Batting first in a game reduced to three days after strike action by regional players on Friday's scheduled opening day, CCC were dismissed for 171, and Jamaica, in reply, reached a comfortable 78 without loss.
Openers Brenton Parchement, 41 not out, and Donovan Pagon, 33 not out, will resume batting today.
Wallace ended with 3-19, while Bernard Jr and Powell, who bowled tight line-and-length spells, claimed 3-32 and 3-34, respectively.
Satisfied
"I am very, very satisfied," said Jamaica's captain Tamar Lambert. "To get them out for 171 and to start so strongly is a positive sign, and the hope is that we can come on tomorrow's second day, capitalise and try to put the game beyond them."
Jamaica, who are a win away from the title, lead the cham-pionship standings on 84 points; 24 more than nearest and only rivals for the title, the Windward Islands.
Jamaica's strong position was first set up by Richardson and opening-ball partner Bernard, who in sharing five early wickets, cleaned up the top and middle order of CCC to have them in deep trouble at 27-5.
Wallace, who was left out of Jamaica's last two matches, after an impressive round of first-round matches which earned him a call to the West Indies 'A' Team, then bowled with flight and turn to dismiss the developmental side's lower order.
Twenty-one year-old Barbadian Nekoli Parris, who has so far scored a century and six fifties to be CCC's leading run-getter this season, and Jamaican wicketkeeper Chadwick Walton top scored for the visitors with 53 and 48, respectively.
In fact, had it not been for a 94-run sixth wicket stand between the two, their team would have folded for a much lower total.
Jamaica won the first-round clash between the two teams in Barbados by 50 runs, after neither team was able to get past 200 in either innings.
IN BARBADOS: Leeward Islands, choosing to bat, reached 410 for eight in their first innings against Barbados.
Scores: Leewards Islands 410 for eight (Runako Morton 192 not out; Kevin Stoute 2-77).
IN ST VINCENT: Trinidad and Tobago, sent to bat by the Windward Islands, reached 238 for five at the close.
Scores: T&T 238-5 (Jason Mohammed 80; Daren Ganga 45; Sherwin Ganga 34 not out; Deighton Butler 2-35).
