LOCAL Drivers are fine-tuning their engines as anticipation mounts leading up to Easter Monday's annual showdown at Dover Raceway in St Ann on April 13.
President of the Jamaica Race Drivers' Club, Hilary Jardine, believes that this event promises to a big one.
"We are expecting another record-breaking crowd support. With the list of drivers scheduled to compete, spectators can expect some close and nail-biting finishes," he said. "The events promise to be very competitive. It is going to be an experience that they have never had before."
Included on the list of drivers scheduled to appear are David Summerbell, Jr, Doug Gore, Peter 'Bull' Thompson, Peter Rae, Chris Campbell and Gary Williams.
Although he was unsuccessful in winning the Caribbean Champion Driver's title, David Summerbell will be using this meet to prepare for the regional clash in May.
"I am ready and the car is in good shape," he said. "We will be making some thorough checks later this week to ensured that all the bolts and screws are in place," he said while rushing to the St Ann raceway last Wednesday.
Big boys back
Summerbell's arch-rival, Doug Gore, seems hungry for action, as he spoke of his car's improved performance.
"It's the same engine from last year, but we have done some minor fixing. The car is ready and so am I," Gore said.
Peter 'Bull' Thompson said he has been experiencing some minor glitches with his prototype RX7 Mazda, but gave the assurance that he will be ready for the Easter weekend meet.
"The big boys are back but, as usual, I will be coming out to do my best," Thompson told Automotives.
This season will mark 20 years since circuit racing began at Dover and Peter Rae, as well as a small group of drivers, will be celebrating that milestone.
Rae, too, has been preparing for the Easter Monday.
"The car will be ready in time for the meet," Rae said.
The motorcyclists are not to be left out of the action. According to Dean Corrodus, the riders should also provide some thrilling entertainment for the crowd.
Harliquin Rodney intends to prove that he is as good as the Jamaican champion Stefan Chin. This will depend on how well he is able to contain other riders such as Adrian Blake and Dennis Chin-Quee.
