What exactly is a solar-wind hybrid energy system?

Adrian Levy shows equipment he uses with his windmill to generate electricity at his Portmore home.
A solar-wind hybrid system is not as complex as it sounds. Hybrid simply means that more than one systems have been woven together to achieve a common purpose.
Those two systems are first, solar energy and second, energy from the wind. Residents power their home during the day and store enough throughout the night.
How it works
Solar energy is generated as the sun shines on solar panels while wind power is driven by a large wind turbine, which resembles the propellers on a small airplane.
During the day, sun and wind generate electricity to run the appliances within the home, while also storing power in large batteries, which then run the home at night.
