Pollard blasts half-century

Choosing to bat after rain prevented any play before lunch at Guaracara Park, T&T gathered 189 for four by the close - approximately 5:45 pm local time - with young Darren Bravo not out on 42 and Denesh Ramdin on eight.
Pollard, one of three West Indies players inserted in the home team's line-up following the Caribbean side's return from New Zealand, top scored with an attacking 57 off 73 balls.
During post-lunch play - the opening session of the game - that was extended to 3:10, Trinidad and Tobago were solid for most of the session although they lost two wickets to left-arm pacer Deighton Butler nearing the interval.
In the last session, Pollard went on to belt his 57, laced with four fours and four sixes.
Butler and off-spinner Shane Shillingford each saw two of their deliveries sailing over the mid-wicket boundary off the big 21-year-old's bat.
Pollard added 91 for the fourth wicket with Bravo before he was bowled by Sammy attempting another big shot. Left-handed Bravo, the 19-year-old brother of West Indies international Dwayne Bravo, has so far stroked four fours and a six as he finished the day eight away from a half-century.
Butler and Sammy bowled well and shared four wickets for the mercurial Windwards, who are trying to rebound from their heavy innings loss last weekend to Barbados after they had inflicted a similarly lopsided win over Guyana in the first round.
Butler picked up two for 26 off 12 overs and Sammy finished with two for 34 off 19.
Although unbeaten so far this season with two drawn results, T&T have entered round three in a low fifth position in the championship table with nine points, trailing Jamaica (18), Barbados (15), the Windward Islands (12) and Combined Campuses and Colleges (12).
