In a brief presentation during the National Leadership Prayer Breakfast, held yesterday at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston, Governor General Sir Kenneth Hall thanked the people of Jamaica for their support and generosity of spirit.
Hall, who announced that he will be demitting office on February 26 as a result of ill health, noted that although his tenure was short, he had the privilege of working with three prime ministers. They include P.J. Patterson, who appointed him as successor to Sir Howard Cooke; Portia Simpson Miller, who succeeded Patterson; and the current prime minister, Bruce Golding.
Golding has selected Seventh-day Adventist Pastor Dr Patrick Linton Allen, the president of the West Indies Union Conference, to become the nation's sixth governor general.
