Barrington Deer, manager of Cavalier, said he is confident his team can win the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA)/ Claro Super League competition, following their impressive 3-1 victory over Liguanea United in the opening match of a double header on Saturday at Constant Spring Football Field.
Cavalier are now tied for second place with the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) on 12 points, one behind leaders August Town (13), who were held to a 1-1 draw by sixth-placed Santos (eight).
Locksley Thompson (53rd), Keiron Brock (64th) and Marlon Walker (93rd) were the goal scorers for Cavalier. Everton Matthis netted for Liguanea United in the 20th minute.
Quality players
"I think we are going all the way this season because we have the quality players to do it and we will be bringing in other players in this transfer window," said Deer.
"I believe that as long as we have a good bench then we should be able to finish the season on top."
Deer added that he doesn't think it will be difficult to win the competition because they have not reached their maximum.
"I don't think that we are peaking yet because we are just coming into our own. I think that there is still a lot of work to be done in our finishing up front," said Deer.
"We didn't play our best game on Saturday but the team is getting better as the season goes on," he pointed out.
In another game, Bull Bay (10) defeated hosts Constant Spring (nine) 1-0. Rollins Francis scored the lone goal for the visitors in the 90th minute.
At Bell Chung Oval, Gee Daley gave August Town the lead in the fifth minute, but Fabian Nethersole equalised for Santos in the 35th minute.
2-2 draw
Real Mona (seven) beat the JDF 2-0 at Up Park Camp with goals from Kirk Allen (52nd) and Jair Gooden (61st).
Police National (six) were held to a 2-2 draw by bottom-placed Mountain View (one). Howard McKenzie (14th) and Carey Williams (75th) were the scorers for Police National. Troyland Williams netted both goals for Mountain View in the 49th and 65th minutes.
