Bent leads Tryall to easy win
Four matches will be played tomorrow in the NCB-sponsored Southeast St Elizabeth KO cricket competition.
Ballards Valley face All Century at Ballards Valley, Tryall take on Comma Pen at Tryall, Uprising tackle Southside at Uprising and Morningside face Todd Town at Fairfield.
Meanwhile, an unbeaten 109 from Hyde Bent carried Tryall to a crushing 231-run victory over Warminister last Sunday at Tryall.
Tryall piled up 339 for five off their allotted 30 overs with Andrew Bryce supporting Bent with 71.
Winston Witter took 2-39 for Warminister.
In their turn at bat, Warminister were blown away for 108 in 19.5 overs. Stanley Brady top-scored with 52 against Damion Bryce 4-15.
At Ballards, the home team defeated Cheapside by five wickets. Cheapside made 177 all out in 26 overs with Rohan Pasco getting 41 and Jermaine Merchant, 39, against Ziggy Levy 3-35 and Tyrone Vassell 2-25.
Ballards Valley replied with 182 for five in 22.3 overs. Damion Ebanks top-scored with 65 not out and Howard Powell 37.
Bowling for Cheapside, Stephan Patterson took 2-25, and Ainsley Goss 2-39.
At Round Hill, Uprising beat Malvern Chase by nine wickets.
Malvern Chase made 145 all out in 21 overs with Roy Witter getting 43 against Alvin Dixon 3-25.
Uprising replied with 149 for one off 16.2 overs. Richard Muschette led the way with 38 not out and Christopher Dyer 33.
LIME lift Reggae Jammin trophy
Defending champions LIME beat Jamaica Broilers by one wicket to capture the Reggae Jammin Foods trophy, which formed part of the Digicel-sponsored Business House cricket series.
In the match played recently at Kensington Park, Jamaica Broilers, who batted first, were dismissed for 146 in 42.5 overs.
Wayne Morgan, 77, Shakaya Thomas, 24, and Peter Caballero, 12, were the only players to reach double figures.
Yannick Elliott took 3-29, Abadou Bryan 2-21 and Dave Johnson 2-38 for LIME, who won under the name Cable & Wireless last year.
In reply, LIME struggled, but achieved victory at 165 for 9 off 43.4 overs.
Horace Miller, who is a member of Jamaica's team in St Kitts, led the way with 33. He was supported by Bryan Blair, 26, and Ryan Francis, 25.
Aaron Daley Jr, son of former Jamaican allrounder Aaron Daley, took 2-41, Morgan 2-26, and Robert Turner 2-29.
High Light in semis
High Light scored an important victory - 300-293 - over Starlight last Sunday at 2b West Avenue.
The victory saw them leapfrog Betta Price to take the last available semi-final spot in the Institute of Sports community domino competition.
This means the men from 133 Maxfield Avenue will play Gold Club - who beat Almond Tree 300-234 in their rescheduled match - in semi-final two, while league toppers Bejon's host Starlight in the other eliminator.
Both semis have been put back to January 18 due to the funeral, this Sunday, of a Starlight player who was gunned down recently.
Knox volleyball one-day rally
The Knox College Sports Club will be hosting a six-a-side girls and boys one-day volleyball rally today on the school's compound in Spaldings, Manchester, starting at 9 a.m.
Apart from the first-, second- and third-place trophies, other prizes to be offered are best server, best passer, best spiker and the MVP award.
A release from the Jamaica Volleyball Association stated: "It is committed to the sustainable growth and development of the sport of volleyball in Jamaica.
"Youth development is at the core of this association's strategic objectives. More tournaments involving the youths will be staged as part of our efforts to promote the sport, while simultaneously harnessing existing talents and unearthing new ones," the release concluded.
Black Lions, Rodwood face off
Black Lions should be licking their chops as they gear up for pointless Rodwood in the only St Catherine Major League game on today. Match time is 3 p.m.
Black Lions are coming off a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Dunbeholden, a former Super League club, while Rodwood experienced their third straight loss, the latest a 2-0 defeat by Meadows at Elllersie Pen last Saturday. In that game, the in-form Duran Dilworth helped himself to a double strike.
In other games played last weekend, D.B. Basovak blanked Police 2-0, Cool Sports edged Albion 1-0, and Dela Vega and Albion drew 1-1.
Blind cricket 'Coachingfor Coaches' series
The Jamaica Visually Impaired Cricket Association will today host the second in a series of 'Coaching for Coaches' sessions under the guidance of Mike Thompson.
Thompson, former head coach of the England Blind Cricket team and pioneer of 'Tape ball cricket', will host today's session at The Mico University College, starting at 10 a.m.
The all-conquering Jamaica National Blind cricket team will also be present at this session.
Cricket coaches with a genuine interest in working in disability cricket have been invited to attend these sessions. A wheelchair cricket session was held at the Mona Rehab Centre on Thursday.
Hy-Performance, UWI score wins
Former champions UWI and newcomers Hy-Performance had victories in two women's matches played on Wednesday in the Jamaica Table Tennis Association/Northwest Development National club league.
Visitors UWI blanked another newcomer, UTech, 3-0 and hosts Hy-Performance edged former champions Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club 3-2 .
UWI extended their lead atop the standings with this victory, which has taken them to four wins from as many starts. They now have 12 points, four more than Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club and Hy-Performance (eight each).
Pembroke Hall (seven), UTech and Highgate United (two each) are also fighting for a place in the top four.
