Long-time rivals Boys' Town and Tivoli Gardens are down to add another instal-ment to a rich history of fierce competition, when the teams kick off the quarter-final round of the Western Union KSAFA Jackie Bell knockout competition, at the Edward Seaga Stadium at 5 p.m. today.

Having faced each other on numerous occasions over the last couple of seasons, Boys' Town and Tivoli have been almost inseparable in terms of head-to-head results.

Holding an edge

However, while the West Kingston team have the edge in league play, finishing just above the Red Brigade in the last two seasons, the fact is Boys' Town have owned Tivoli when it comes to the Jackie Bell KO.

The teams last met in the Corporate Area KO last season, when Boys' Town handed Tivoli a 1-0 beaten to earn a place in the final, where they eventually lost to Harbour View.

In the two prior seasons (2005 and 2006), Boys' Town got the better of Tivoli on penalties, despite both games being played at the Edward Seaga Stadium.

The last time the teams met, however, it was Tivoli who proved to be the role of spoilers, denying Boys' Town a place in the Digicel Premier League's first end of round final.

Hoping for dominance

Boys' Town coach, Andrew Price is hoping his team's dominance in the knockout competition continues.

"I expect it's going to be another competitive game. They are still smarting from a loss to Arnett over the weekend and should be looking to redeem themselves in front of their fans," said Price, who led the team to the 2005 title. "However, if we play competitive, disciplined football in both areas of the pitch there is no reason that we should not be able to come away with a positive result."

Tivoli's assistant coach, Max Straw, who saw his team lose a heartbreaker at home to another rival, Arnett, in league play over the weekend, is confident that the team has recovered from that setback and will be ready for Boys' Town.

"In football you have to expect any result on a given day but the team has to be able to recover. Today's game gives us an opportunity to wipe away those memories without having to wait a whole week," he said.

"The Jackie Bell competition is a good opportunity for teams to lift a trophy early in the season. We are taking it very seriously, we won't be fielding any second string side, we are going out there to win because it is very important to us."

Absentees

Straw will stand in as deputy for Lenworth Hyde Sr, who leaves the island today with the national Under-21 team for World Cup play-offs in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Tivoli, who last won the competition in 2004, will be without veteran midfielder Steve Green, as the player sustained an injury over the weekend.
