WATERHOUSE LAST night blanked Rivoli United 3-0 at Drewsland, pushing the promoted team down to last spot in the Digicel Premier League standings.

The Drewsland men got goals from Marco McDonald in the 36th, Jonathan Williams in the 70th and substitute Kevin Lamey in the 89th in a match which saw 20 minutes worth of stoppage for a malfunctioning light tower.

The homesters took the lead when Kenardo Forbes' dipping free kick from left of the 18-yard box was headed in by McDonald.

Diving header

Williams doubled the score after the break with a diving header off Jermaine Anderson's cross and Lamey completed the one-sided affair with his first touch of the match in the 89th, volleying past Leighton Murray from close range with a minute left on the clock. Whereas Waterhouse got at least two other chances to notch a wider margin, Rivoli's best move was in the 49th minute when their leading scorer, Devon Hodges, dummied Oneil Thomas on the edge of the box and turned sweetly to fire a shot, which Richard McCallum parried, diving full stretch to his right.

Defensive woes

Waterhouse coach Hugh 'Bingi' Blair, whose team struggled with defensive woes in the first round, said the home win was a good start.

"We need those points, whichever team we play," Blair said, dismissing queries about the quality of the Rivoli line-up.

"Whichever team we play, we need to beat them and get those points up there. We've solved the back line because less goals are being scored on us. In the last match, St Georges scored from a corner.

"All we need now is for the front-line men to put the ball in the back of the net," he said.
