Reaction to sharing beds
Published: Tuesday | December 9, 2008
The story on shared hospital beds has been going on for at least 11 years. My daughter was born at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in the 1997, and after I delivered my child, a nurse told me that I had to share with another person.
First of all, she didn't even ask me if I was comfortable with the idea of sharing. I told her I'm not going to because hospital visits aren't free and I paid in full before I even went into delivery.
Blood
After childbirth, a woman passes a lot of blood and why would I want someone I don't know with the same condition on a small twin-size bed next to me? Sometimes a woman can even get a little blood on the sheet if the pad shifts from underneath her. What if she has any skin condition and we are on the same bed, forget that.
Just refuse, there is nothing the nurse or anyone can say; or just report it to the media, list names. I'm sure they won't appreciate it.
I am, etc.,
