More decreases under way - JPS

Published: Tuesday | December 9, 2008

The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) has advised that the continued decrease in the cost of fuel will see a further reduction in electricity bills in December.

In a release issued on Saturday, the light and power company said ongoing decreases in the cost of the fuel JPS purchases to generate electricity were proving to be positive in terms of billing.

The fuel and Independent Power Producers (IPP) charge applied to December bills was $12.168 per kilowatt-hour, compared to the charge of $13.226 applied to November bills.

This month's charge on electricity bills was the lowest since January.

"This means that both residential and business customers will see a decrease of between four and five per cent in their December bills, relative to their November bills, if their usage remained consistent," stated the release.

While the cost of oil continues to trend downwards, JPS warned customers to continue to carefully manage their energy usage.
