JDF too hot for UWI in Div 1 TT

Defending champions Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) defeated the University of West Indies (UWI) 3-0 in the Jamaica Table Tennis Association's (JTTA) Northwest Development Division One competition on Saturday at Up Park Camp.

In the day's other games, last year's beaten finalists Athletico Port Antonio defeated Pembroke Hall 3-1 and Hy-Performance blanked former champions Uni-versity of Technology (UTech) 3-0.

Four other matches were played in four different categories between hosts Pembroke Hall and Highgate United at the Pembroke Hall Community Centre. Pembroke Hall, who are defending champions in both the women's and men's Division Two, won the matches in these two categories by identical 3-1 score lines.

In Division Three, former champions Pembroke Hall whipped reigning champions Highgate United 4-1 while defending Division Four champions, Highgate United, stopped Pembroke Hall 5-0 in this category.

In the JDF-UWI encounter, Christopher Marsh defeated Robert Thaxter 3-0, Phillip Drummond stopped Rudolph Sinclair 3-1, and Levi Hibbert eased past Hubert Lawrence 3-0, for JDF's three victories.

Dale Parham won two matches for Athletico Port Antonio in their match against Pembroke Hall. Parham trounced Richardo Lee 3-0 and turned back Sean Wallace 3-1, and national champion Peter Moo-Young crushed Wallace 3-0 for Athletico Port Antonio's third win. Clive Johnson defeated Robert Green 3-2 to pull one back for Pembroke Hall.

In the Hy-Performance and UTech match-up, Emani McPherson won two matches for Hy-Per-formance, whipping both Kane Watson and Paulton Madden by 3-0 margins. Simon Tomlinson over-powered Michael Cai 3-0 for Hy-Performance's third victory. Madden outlasted Rohan Schloss 3-2 and Watson got by Schloss 3-1, for UTech's two consolation victories.

In the women's category, national champion Yvonne Foster defeated Kemolyn Frost and Davene Buchanan by similar 3-0 scores, to win two matches for Pembroke Hall, and Esheoni Barrett beat Kashauna Graham 3-1 for Pembroke Hall's third win. Buchanan outscored Alecia Bennett 3-1 to pull one back for Highgate United.
