Bolt takes spin in Ferrari
published: Monday | November 24, 2008

Anthony Foster, Gleaner Writer

Monte Carlo:

Usain Bolt, the world's fastest man, had one of his dream moments yesterday - in a Ferrari F430 Modena sports car.

Bolt, who won the 100 metres in 9.69 seconds and 200m in 19.30 at this year's Beijing Olympics drove on part of the course for the Monaco Grand Prix, a Formula One motor race.

"It was good ... awesome," were the words first uttered by Bolt after his quick spin. "Hopefully in the future I can own a Ferrari," said Bolt, who arrived in Monaco last Friday from Germany where he got BMW driving lessons.

His BMW, which shoe company Puma bought for his 22nd birthday, is set to arrive in Jamaica within two weeks.

Nothing but fun

However, Bolt's agent, Ricky Simms, made it clear yesterday that driving the Ferrari, one of the world's most-famous cars, was nothing but fun for his athlete.

"The guy just wanted to have fun driving a Ferrari and that was all about it," said Simms, responding to questions if it was an endorsement deal for his star athlete.

"We hired this car. We paid a fee (90 euros per hour). Anyone can do it. He always wanted to drive a Ferrari, because he loves cars," added Simms.

"He has no endorsement with BMW or Ferrari. We are looking for an endorsement with a car company. We are talking to some car companies, but nothing has been finalised yet".
