published: Monday | November 24, 2008

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) and the Norman Manley Law School are seeking to forge a partnership which will include seminars on human-rights issues and internships for students.

The commission and the University of the West Indies, Mona campus facility, are scheduled to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on December 3, at the law school.

Presenting seminars

The MoU will indicate that the commission will present seminars addressing the presentation of a case before the IACHR and related matters, at the law school from time to time.

The MOU will also indicate that the commission will be prepared to accept students from the law school to work as interns.

The Norman Manley Law School will indicate, in the MOU, its willingness to host the commission for seminars and to inform its students about the availability of internships at the commission.

Talks on dealth penalty

As part of the proceedings at the signing ceremony, the law school will host two members of the commission for presentations on December 3, commencing at 4 p.m. The presentations will consider, among other things, the work of the commission and the perspec-tives of the commission on certain issues, including the death penalty, police killings and libel laws.

The signing ceremony will take place after the presentations by the members of the commission.
