KELLY'S WORLD - Superman gone for the day!
published: Monday | November 24, 2008

Kelly

If Superman was a real person he would be one burdened individual. Think about it: Every time there's some impending disaster, he steps into the phone booth, changes in the blink of an eye and takes to the skies to save mankind. I'm sure he would like a day off or two.

Sometimes we all feel like Superman in that we're always called on to save the day in some way or the other. You ever notice how there are times you're the one everybody looks to to solve a problem? Like you're the only one who can clear the paper jam in the copier, or you're the only one who knows how to send a fax.

How about you just happen to be heading in the direction where somebody wants something delivered? What do they do? They ask you to drop if off for them, of course. Seems like things are always falling into our laps whether or not we want them to.

Sense of pride

Well, even though there is a sense of pride that comes with helping somebody, there are times I just don't feel like being the man of steel. I'm not required to save the world but when I'm in my 'Eveyore' moods, I'd rather be by my lonesome self. Of course, there are times when I have no choice, or even if I do, it would look really bad if I didn't help out. Sometimes I feel like saying, "So what if the delivery is in my path. I don't feel like delivering anything; FedEx ain't written on my shirt!" Or how about, "no, I ain't giving you one of my pens, there's a reason I carry two! Duh!"

Learn it

I believe in the 'dark road at night' mentality; that is, if I should ever be stuck on a dark road at night by myself, I should be able to get myself home. In other words, always learn how to do things yourself! If all your efforts fail, by all means, ask for help. Begging somebody else shouldn't be your first, and for some, only, option.

So you don't know how to send a call from there. Learn! What if I didn't come to work for three weeks? Are you going to learn from either trial and error, ask somebody else or just let the call wait until I get back? If your answer is the third option, you're crazy.

Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'm putting up my cape for the day. If anything goes wrong, I hear Batman is not busy today. Call him on his 'BatBerry'!
