Best and worst Christmas gifts
published: Monday | November 24, 2008

As expected, Flair Bachelor of the Year 2008, Christopher Lawe, knows how to buy the perfect Christmas gift despite a hiccup in his younger days.

"The worst Christmas gift I ever got would definitely be when I was younger and I used to get Hardy Boys books. I was a very active and athletic child so I hated reading things that I was not personally interested in. "The best gift that I might have given (which, for the record, I don't think it's for me to judge) was when I gave my girlfriend at the time a custom-made stained glass lamp. It was a heart-shaped lamp which had an arrow through it. Strategically placed along the diagonal of the arrow were a penny, a nickel and the space for a dime (but the dime was missing).

Light on, light off

"With the lamp off, all you can see is the heart, the arrow and the empty dime space. With the lamp on you see the words, 'a penny for your thoughts' (and you see the physical penny), 'a nickel for your kiss' (and you see the physical nickel), 'a dime if you tell me that you love me' (and you see the empty space for the dime). The wording was on the back of the stained glass and that is how we achieved the light-on, light-off effect.

At the time, we had expressed many thoughts, and we had kissed but we had not yet said, "I love you." Her reaction was, "Bubu, I love you," and those words were the best gift I have ever received.
