Supplementary budget on agenda for Nov 27

The 14-month-old administration of the Jamaica Labour Party goes into retreat on November 27 to carve out the first supplementary estimates of expenditure for the 2008-2009 fiscal year.

Debate on the estimates will follow shortly in the House of Representatives.

This was announced yesterday in Gordon House by Don Wehby, minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Finance, who was making his maiden presentation to the State of the Nation Debate in the Senate.

State will protect children - Holness

As the national concern over recent cases of child abduction continued to build yesterday, Minister of Education Andrew Holness sought to assure parents that the State would play its role in providing security for their children.

However, speaking prior to the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Spanish-Jamaican Foundation and his ministry at its Heroes Circle offices in central Kingston, Holness also made a solemn appeal to parents to take greater responsibility in protecting their children.
