The Editor, Sir:
I am compelled to express my repugnance of what is happening with our children. The heart-rending anecdotes of violence and abduction in our society today are such that cause the minds of concerned citizens to wonder about the future of our country. The news headlines of young people being abducted and inhumanely raped and killed make us see that something is psychological wrong with some of our people here in Jamaica.
When have we become so cold, cruel, evil and uncaring? It has gone too far! One is too many! What have our children done to deserve these punishments?
We should never forget that our children have rights. And, the first and foremost, the right to life. Children have the right to be protected from abuse, neglect and exploitation in addition to be heard, and they are calling for help.
Jamaica, let us now stand up as a country and campaign for the protection of our children before another goes missing. This is the time to let our voices resonate in the minds of those who commit these heinous acts and work closely with the police, schools and community to preserve our country's future.
Let us unite around a common cause.
I am, etc.,
