The Editor, Sir:Recent letters to the Editor of this newspaper have suggested that Jamaica needs a new kind of politics. I concur. For far too long we have sat on the sidelines and watched the two political tribes slug it out in the public arena while the country has slipped steadily into decay on several levels.
We need a politics that, as one reader suggested, puts the country first. I am always amazed at the frequency with which American politicians use the phrase 'for the American people'. In stark contrast our politicians speak about their party, their supporters, their government, but rarely do they speak of what they do for their Jamaican people. Shouldn't service to the Jamaican people be their primary focus?
I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I grow tired of hearing how past and present administrations point fingers as to who is morecorrupt, when neither has the moral authority to do so. What are you doing for 'the Jamaican people'? I submit that should be the only way to keep score.
I am, etc.,
