WESTERN BUREAU:FOLLOWING A verbal spat between Cecil Fletcher, the president of the Montego Bay Cricket Club, and Raymond Kerr, the Inter-Secondary School Sports Association (ISSA) representative for western Jamaica, the club has taken a decision to deny ISSA the use of its spectator stand unless Kerr is replaced.
"There was some misunderstanding over persons Mr Kerr sent to access the club's facility during the Ben Francis KO final," said Fletcher. "Instead of trying to settle the matter amicably, he called me on my phone and used a spate of expletives to me and then hung up."
Fletcher said the matter was brought to the attention of the club's executive and, following an emergency meeting on Monday, a decision was taken to sever, with immediate effect, all ties with Kerr in his capacity as the ISSA representative. The decision was subsequently communicated to ISSA.
Reputable organisation
"We have told ISSA that we stand ready to work with them again but not with Mr Kerr as their representative," said Fletcher. "We consider ISSA to be a reputable organisation and should they find someone else to represent them, we will be quite happy to resume business with them."
When ISSA was contacted, competition coordinator, George Forbes, said he was aware the verbal altercation between Fletcher and Kerr, although he did not have all the details. He said ISSA would put a new person in place to negotiate on its behalf with the Montego Bay Cricket Club.
When Kerr was contacted for a comment, he said Fletcher was disrespectful to him and that while he did respond with a few insulting remarks, he did not use any expletives.
