Witness links three to Chin murders
published: Friday | October 17, 2008

A witness has tied three men to the murder of 56-year-old businessman and justice of the peace, Winston Chin, and his 50-year-old wife Aileen, four years ago.

The couple, who operated Penny's Supermarket in Annotto Bay, St Mary, were shot several times during a robbery at their home at Claremont district, St Mary, on July 3, 2004.

Godfrey Williams, Chris-topher Edgehill and Cecil Wright have been on trial in the Home Circuit Court since September 19, for the double murder.

Witness

The witness testified at the trial in the Home Circuit Court that the day before the Chins were murdered, he heard the three accused making plans to commit the murder. The witness also said the day after the murder he saw the three accused sharing bags of money.

Evidence was also given before the 12-member jury that Chin's licensed firearm was recovered within 48 hours of the murder from one of the accused men.

Evidence

Eleven witnesses have so far testified at the trial. Justice Carol Beswick is the presiding judge.

The Crown, represented by prosecutors Diahann Gordon Harrison and Sanchia Burrell, has led evidence that at 8 p.m. on July 3, 2004, Chin came out of his motor vehicle and was about to open his gate when he was shot nine times. Eight of the gunshot wounds were to the neck.

Mrs Chin came out of the vehicle and began to run. She was shot several times.
